Student Life and Support

Student life and location

AUR offers a close-knit, international campus community where students quickly get to know their classmates, professors, and staff. With students from more than 60 countries, daily life is highly multicultural, and there are plenty of ways to get involved through student clubs, athletics, events, volunteer opportunities, and activities around Rome.

The campus is located in the residential Monteverde neighborhood on Rome’s Janiculum Hill, near Villa Doria Pamphili and Trastevere. Students might spend the morning in class, grab lunch at a neighborhood café, meet friends on campus, and head into the historic center in the afternoon or evening. Rome becomes an extension of the classroom and of student life, with museums, historic sites, restaurants, markets, parks, and cultural events all within reach.

Housing and support

AUR offers optional university-arranged accommodation in furnished shared apartments and residences in residential neighborhoods around campus, giving students the experience of living in Rome rather than in a traditional dormitory. Students may also arrange housing independently. Students who want AUR accommodation should apply early, as space is limited; housing application deadlines are June 30 for Fall and November 20 for Spring.

Students have access to a range of academic and personal support throughout their time at AUR. Academic resources include the Writing Center and Math and Italian Helpdesks, while health and well-being support includes confidential counseling, wellness initiatives, and access to healthcare support, including an on-campus doctor. AUR also works with students who require learning or physical accommodations and encourages students to communicate their needs before arrival so appropriate support can be arranged.

Careers and Outcomes

AUR’s Career Development and Internship Office helps students connect their studies with future careers through one-to-one advising, CV and cover letter support, interview and networking workshops, and access to internship and job opportunities. Students can complete credit-bearing internships with companies, NGOs, cultural organizations, diplomatic institutions, and international organizations in Rome and beyond. AUR also offers REAL Projects, which allow students to work in teams on projects and challenges provided by real organizations. Recent internship hosts have included KPMG, the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization, the Fulbright Commission, the Jesuit Refugee Service, museums, embassies, galleries, media organizations, and businesses.

Career preparation continues through employer and alumni engagement and support for students considering employment or graduate study after AUR. Among responding members of AUR’s Class of 2024, 85% were working full-time or pursuing an advanced degree within six months of graduation.

Information for Counselors

AUR welcomes students from a wide range of national and international curricula and reviews applications holistically, taking into account academic performance, curriculum rigor, growth, and the context of the student’s school system. First-year applicants should submit transcripts covering their last three years of secondary study; for students still in school, the transcript should identify the final qualification they are working toward and expected completion date. Documents not issued in English require a certified English translation. An academic recommendation is required, while SAT and ACT scores are optional. Counselors can also provide a school profile or grading-scale information when useful to help AUR understand the student’s academic context.

AUR operates rolling admissions, but counselors are encouraged to have students apply early, particularly international students who may need additional time for the Italian student visa process. Questions about an applicant, curriculum, documentation, or the admissions process can be directed to the Admissions Office. Counselors visiting Rome can also arrange a campus tour; tours are led by student ambassadors and offer a firsthand look at AUR’s academic spaces and student experience. Virtual tours and one-to-one meetings with Admissions counselors are available for those unable to visit in person.
